Virtual PC | Virtual PC & Installing FreeDOSIf you tried in desperation, but cannot find a DOS 5 or 6 install from Microsoft, don't fear. FreeDOS is, well free! The current version of FreeDOS can be downloaded in a bootable CD ISO format from the FreeDOS website at www.freedos.org. FreeDOS in general does not appear to run as many games, or run as well, as MS DOS. I don't think this is a Microsoft conspiracy; FreeDOS is still in its infancy (at the time of writing it is in Beta 0.9). It is great for general DOS applications, but games may involve some trickery to get to work. Aside from games, however, FreeDOS can be a very useful environment for running specific types of programs: bootable recovery programs, dedicated controllers made from old PC's and so on. Still, as proof that games can be run under FreeDOS, here is "Dragon Wars" running in FreeDOS:
